Taking care of your glasses

The best way to keep your glasses looking mint is to clean them everyday. This would also prevent lens scratches and eyewear damage.

Here are steps on how to clean your glasses and prevent scratches:

  1. Wash and dry your hands. Make sure that your hands are free from dirt or grime before cleaning your lenses. Use soap and lint-free towel to dry your hands.

  2. Rinse your glasses with lukewarm tap water. Rinsing your eyewear under a stream of lukewarm water will remove dust and debris which may cause scratches on the lenses. Do not use hot water as this may damage lens coatings.

  3. Use a tiny amount of dishwashing soap to clean the lens. Apply only a drop as most dishwashing soaps are very concentrated.

  4. Rub each lens gently and other parts of the eyewear. Clean every part of the eyewear especially where dust and oil can easily accumulate - from the nose pads to the ends of the temples that rest behind your ears.

  5. Rinse eyewear thoroughly. Make sure to remove all soap residues from the lenses and frames which may be smeared when you dry your glasses. Gently shake the glasses after to remove most of the water.

  6. Dry the eyewear with lint-free towel. Avoid using cloth that has been laundered with a fabric softener as it may smear the lenses. A good cloth choice would be the ones used for cleaning glassware. Check for debris or dirt from the cloth which may scratch the lenses.

  7. Inspect the lenses. Remove all remaining streaks or smudges using a microfiber cloth. This cleaning cloths are usually available from optical shops.

  8. Use protective case. Eyeglass lenses can easily get scratched if we fail to store them in a protective case when not in use. If you don’t have one, make sure to never put your glasses on a table or counter with the lenses facing down.
